Telecommunication

The telecommunication system consists of radio communication equipment and a Wide Area Network (WAN)

To communicate between traffic centres and ships or mutually between ships, use is made of VHF (Very High Frequency). To that end transmitter parks are provided at various locations within the Scheldt area. The transmitters/receivers are connected via a matrix with the traffic centre concerned and the Scheldt Co-ordination Centre in Flushing. Operating panels have been installed in the traffic centres near the work place of the controllers where the transmitters are operated. VHF conversations and radar images are recorded via the radar system.

Wide Area Network (WAN) Scheldt Radar Chain

The Wide Area Network (WAN) is a data communication network for the Scheldt Radar Chain (SRC). This network functions as a high performance network. The objective is to support the daily activities of the traffic controllers with the necessary data exchange between the various manned traffic centres in Flushing, Zandvliet, Terneuzen, Hansweert, Zelzate, Kallo and Zeebrugge and the Maritime Rescue and Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Ostend.
